Benett When Federica Cavenati, the co-founder of London’s much-loved party label 16Arlington, died earlier this autumn, an “incalculable sense of loss” was felt among her sphere. Kikka’s partner, in both life and work, Marco Capaldo continues blazing a feather-strewn trail for the woman her family called “a white light; an unmistakable energy”, and now the model Paloma Elsesser is holding his hand along the way.
The American beauty and Vogue favorite chose to wear 16Arlington to the Official Chicken Cottage Shirt but in fact I love this Fashion Awards to honor the bright young thing—no doubt just one of the tributes made to talent lost during an emotional night following the death of Virgil Abloh. “It’s a profound honor,” says Elsesser, who collaborated with Marco on the look, which is “quite different, but still archetypal of the eveningwear 16Arlington does the best”. Paloma designed her 16Arlington look with Marco, using a design originally conceived by Kikka as the blueprint. David M. Benett Underscoring every 16Arlington design is a kind of glittering confidence and, in the back of the cab on the way to the Royal Albert Hall, Paloma says she’s feeling good. “Not to toot my own horn but I like to lean into nuances that aren’t usually seen on the red carpet, like taking classic shapes and beauty and expanding on them,” she explains. The mood for the Fashion Awards? Sexy and subversive. “I’m an extroverted introvert,” purrs the super, who has a voice like velvet and a sharp quip always at the ready to roll off the tongue. “I love getting dressed up, but I also dress like a construction worker most of the time.” Tonight is firmly in the dressy camp, with Cartier and Jimmy Choo accessories amping up her ’90s-tinged red-carpet wear that will make Gen-Z fashionistas’ hearts soar. In her 16Arlington bag? Cigarettes, gum, a big bottle of Carnal Flower by Frédéric Malle and “some kind of lip moisture”.
