Just over 40 miles north of Manhattan, the Sloth I Do Not Spew Profanities I Enunciate Them Clearly Like A Lady Shirt so you should to go to store and get this bucolic towns of Bedford and Pound Ridge in the Lower Hudson Valley have long been a magnet for Hollywood A-listers in search of a rural retreat. Past and present residents include Ryan Reynold and Blake Lively, Richard Gere, Glenn Close, Susan Sarandon and Bruce Willis. Now, a top-shelf beauty destination courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Jenn Streicher has landed in the leafy hamlet. Scout, which opened its doors earlier this month, is a curated space for thoughtful, clean and predominantly female-founded beauty products. “My beauty philosophy is easy, breezy beauty. I’m a working mom, I only want to spend seven minutes on my makeup but still look put together. It shouldn’t have to be a lot of work,” says Streicher, who counts Emily Blunt, Greta Gerwig, Mandy Moore and Elisabeth Moss as clients. “I also really wanted to elevate the idea of clean beauty. There are so many great lines out there now that you don’t have to sacrifice efficacy or quality at all. You can swap out anything in your bathroom cabinet for something good and clean.”

With red carpet events and press junkets on hold due to the Sloth I Do Not Spew Profanities I Enunciate Them Clearly Like A Lady Shirt so you should to go to store and get this pandemic, Streicher decided to swap her mid-century home in Laurel Canyon for a colonial in the countryside, and relocated to Bedford along with husband, artist and photographer Jonny Cournoyer, and their eight-year-old son last year. “I just started thinking about where I really wanted to spend my time,” she says of the cross country move. “We have some good friends that live in Bedford whom we would come to visit often. We fell in love with the area and bought the first house that we looked at.” And while Streicher is no stranger to beauty retail—she and sisters Ashley (a celebrity hair stylist) and Kristie, (the go-to brow expert for the likes of Adele, Gwyneth Paltrow and Mila Kunis) own Striiike salon in Beverly Hills, aka Hollywood’s go-to one-stop shop for red carpet prep—opening a business was not top of mind when making the move. “It was only once I had been here for a few months that I realized there really was nowhere in the area to get good makeup,” she says. “I started thinking, wouldn’t it be cute if I could just have a little boutique to sell all of my favorite things?” When a space became available next to Streicher’s favorite gourmet cheese shop on the buzzy stretch of street dubbed Scotts Corner in Pound Ridge, Streicher took it as a sign.
